Actor Jorge Acuña abandons conventional
theatre and instead takes to staging mime acts
in the streets. Despite being persecuted by the
police who try to stop him from acting in the
main square of Lima, Jorge Acuña becomes
the best-known actor in Peru.
The story behind the making of this film goes
back to 1974.
Reyes arrives from Chile with the experience of
three years shooting his films, during the period
of the POPULAR UNITY and subsequently witnessing
the coup d’Etat. Reyes had to change and
learn to adapt and ultimately live in a new way.
There followed many nights of debate and reflection
between Reyes and Acuña, in Limas’
cafes such as "Palermo" and "Wony
bistro". Reyes started the first draft in
two parts of this project.
This was the first film in his native country
and saw the beginning of a long period of research
on the social history of Peru and his people.
